Responsive Translation’s subject matter experts have decades of test development experience in 90 languages. We recruit and hire only the most qualified subject matter experts available.

Every SME assigned to a project team has a strong background in the area of expertise required, has solid experience as a linguist and is well versed in both the source and target cultures. Clients are welcome to be involved in final SME selection.

SME Review and Validation: How We Do It

Our project-specific team of subject matter experts focuses on different areas, such as:

• Information: Our SMEs ensure that the translation does not change the quantity, quality or content of the information critical to understanding what each item is about, and how it should be answered. Areas of attention include: inconsistent translation of a term repeated several times in the original and a key term appearing more often or less often than in the original.
• Construct: Our SMEs ensure that the translation does not change the type of knowledge or the abilities needed to answer an item correctly. Areas of attention include: inexact translation of technical terms and insertion or omission of technical terms.

The subject matter expert review and validation step typically comes after style guide creation, glossary creation, translation and adaptation, content editing, linguistic editing and proofreading in one of our most-recommended assessment translation workflows—and in conformity with ITC guidelines. However, the subject matter experts are involved with the project right from the start.
