This year’s higher math exam in Scotland was described as “impossible.” Many students were shocked and devastated at the difficulty of the exam, reported the BBC, with some of the unhappy students in tears. The exam spurred 14,000 people to join two online petitions speaking out against the difficulty of the exam.
Last year the passing grade was set at 45% after all the exams had been marked, but this year the passing grade had to be lowered to 34%, confirming students’ assertions that the exam was more difficult.
